For the money they are amazing but, again, you might want to look elsewhere for the level of math you are looking for. If anything you should be looking to learn calculus, differential equations, and linear algebra as a start.
I've only worked through bits and pieces of the first few Ao PS books and I love them dearly.
The way they explain things really seems to click pretty well for me.
If you don't like it or just decide you'd rather have a physical copy, I believe its just a couple clicks to return the online edition.
Prealgebra prepares students for the rigors of algebra, and also teaches students problem-solving techniques to prepare them for prestigious middle school math contests such as MATHCOUNTS, MOEMS, and the AMC 8.
I tried Khan Academy for a while, and while I love Khan dearly...
it just didn't fill in all the holes in my math education (but it did get me some solid practice with its almost endless practice problems, something that Ao PS doesn't have unless you use their Alcumus thing - but that doesn't cover every topic afaik).Topics covered in the book include the properties of arithmetic, exponents, primes and divisors, fractions, equations and inequalities, decimals, ratios and proport Prealgebra prepares students for the rigors of algebra, and also teaches students problem-solving techniques to prepare them for prestigious middle school math contests such as MATHCOUNTS, MOEMS, and the AMC 8.Topics covered in the book include the properties of arithmetic, exponents, primes and divisors, fractions, equations and inequalities, decimals, ratios and proportions, unit conversions and rates, percents, square roots, basic geometry (angles, perimeter, area, triangles, and quadrilaterals), statistics, counting and probability, and more! The total cost is 0 including international shipping and other fees.Do you think Ao PS will not fall short of my expectations?I dropped out of highschool without finishing any math classes (health issues), and fiddled around teaching myself math through messing with spreadsheets formulas for games and some hobbyist programming for a few years. So I had an understanding of math, but some pretty serious gaps. The text is structured to inspire the reader to explore and develop new ideas. Each section starts with problems, giving the student a chance to solve them without help before proceeding.Personally I kinda of want to also pick up some of their table math books and competition stuff too, just for fun and to get a bit more practice in.I can't comment on engineering mathematics, since I don't have experience there (but hope to some day)To comment briefly on the price... I totally get that, and sometimes having online versions of the books causes me some eye strain and I'm considering getting physical versions of the books moving forward.
